We are randomly experiencing this error when connecting to SQL W2K from web
servers using ODBC. I see numerous links on the web but no real answers.

Hi

Looking through some of the posts they seem to imply a network connection
error is the usual cause of this problem, therefore you may want to monitor
this. Have you checked the event log for anything network related? Of course
it may be quite difficult to track down especially as the it could be
hardware other than the server, so the firewall logs may help and switching
in/out the NIC, Firewall, Switches/Hubs, Cables...

The other suggestion is to use OLEDB, this should give performance
improvements but will probably not solve it directly!
